Daria Comanescu

Blending creative instinct with strategic clarity to help brands tell their story and build long-lasting identities.

Hi! I am Daria: Romanian-born, Amsterdam-formed, and recently Barcelona-tempered. A marketer, branding manager enthusiast, writer, filmmaker, strategist—and, occasionally, a singer. My background spans a Media & Culture degree from the University of Amsterdam, a Minor in Entrepreneurship, and a Master’s in Marketing Management from ESADE. But I believe that even before the academic background gave me a bunch of titles and capabilities, my passion for storytelling and art have shaped my path. I live at the crossroads of instinct and intention—where art meets business, and stories meet strategy.

About me

Origin Story:

I was born in Galați, Romania, a quiet town by the Danube where not much happened unless you made it happen yourself. I started writing when I was twelve, first small poems in Romanian that I kept to myself, then short stories and lyrics filling the margins of my notebooks. I learned to play guitar so I could turn words into songs, and somewhere in that process I realized that creating wasn’t simply something I enjoyed. It was the way I made sense of the world.

That curiosity eventually led me to Amsterdam, where I studied Media and Culture and followed a cinematography track. I loved immersing myself in storytelling, film theory, and cultural analysis, learning how narratives shape the way we see people and places. But as much as I loved exploring stories, I became equally fascinated by something behind them: the strategy that allows ideas to travel, the systems that help narratives resonate, and the way brands can shape culture at scale.

This curiosity took me to Barcelona, where I began studying marketing and brand management at ESADE, a completely different environment. I didn’t want to leave creativity behind. I wanted to understand how to structure it, grow it, and guide it into the real world where ideas are not only imagined but built.

That is what ultimately drew me to advertising. It sits at the intersection of creativity and strategy, a place where storytelling meets decision making, and where you can shape the narrative of a brand while thinking about its direction and impact.

I still write and create, but now I also analyze, build, and pitch. I’ve realized that the place that excites me most is exactly there, where imagination meets strategy and ideas become something real.

Rebirth

Quarantine…back in my parent’s house in that bedroom that has seen so many late nights of writing. Writing of love and loss, of growth and feeling confused, endless tries to describe a teen’s mind when that was one of the biggest challenges I had tried to take on. Somehow, “Rebirth” took a form, very blurry in the beginning, but so true, so personal, a start of something I had yet known nothing about. Exciting, I had finally found the words, the melody, to tell my truth, that truth of the 17 year old lost in a small-minded city I had to call home.

Broken Side

Turns out, I loved making music. Why have I not done this before? It felt right, it gave me strength, something to look forward to. I had so many stories, so many feelings yet to talk about. “Broken Side” was the product of one of the greatest experiences, being part of a national Talent Show, having my first song heard by an audience I only dreamt of. It was a collaboration between my lyrics, and Paul’s sounds, together singing this 80’s inspired story with a touch of the 2021’s aesthetic. This project gave me the chance to build myself into a character, to decide the visuals and work on a music clip that encapsulated a week of active learning, dodging the rain, but still having a great time.

Lampiride (short video)

Summer of 2019, cold sand and an unusually windy night of July on the beach. We were filming a short movie. Truth be told, we did not have much experience or a target in mind. We had a script, an idea, and the excitement of a full night of filming. Harder than any of us would have expected but a night I would not trade for any comfort. It was part of a larger experience, a movie summer camp where I had the chance to dive deeper into my passion for script-writing, story-telling and film-making. Looking back, that long black dress and the freezing waves rushing to the shore were the beginning of my cinematic adventure.

Școală-te

“Școală-te” was an extraordinary journey that I embarked on in high school with the theater group Renegatii. It was an invitation that changed our lives and challenged us to explore the depths of our creativity. From the moment we said "yes," we dove headfirst into a whirlwind of artistic expression and collaboration. The heart and soul of our project lies in the creation of an original production, a story that is uniquely ours. We poured our hearts and minds into crafting a script that was born from our own experiences, perspectives, and imaginations in highschool. Through a blend of creative writing techniques and spontaneous improvisations, we brought this tale to life, capturing the essence of our collective spirit. Over the course of a year, we embraced our roles not only as actors but as creators and managers of our own artistic destiny. We delved into every aspect of the production, from conceptualization to execution. The culmination of our efforts was a spectacle that transcended our wildest dreams. The grand premiere took place at the esteemed National Opera and Operetta Theater "N. Leonard," where we witnessed the fruition of our labor on a professional stage. The energy was electric as we shared our story with the audience, inviting them to explore the depths of their own emotions alongside us. It followed other representations at The Drama Theatre, spreading our message to a wider audience, as proud actors, writers, creators and friends that took having fun to another level.
